The history of Kurume is old, and people begin to live in this ground from the Old Stone Age approximately 20,000 years ago, and it is supposed that we keep warm climate and rich Waters and Land alive, and rice growing began from time that is early nationwide. On April 1, 1889, Kurume-shi was born by the municipal organization enforcement. Population at the time is 24,750 people. The number of houses was 4,262 houses.
